우리는 새만금 사업으로 유린 당해온 미안하고, 가슴 아픈 생명들이 다시 갯벌에 기대어 온전히 살아갈 수 있을 때까지 끝끝내 함께 싸울 것입니다. 우리는 생명을 포기하지 않습니다. 우리는 사랑을 포기하지 않습니다.

Sura Tidal Flat is the black-faced spoonbill.
Sura Tidal Flat is the white-handed fiddler crab.
Sura Tidal Flat is the migratory shorebird.
Sura Tidal Flat is you.
Sura Tidal Flat is all of us.

The black-faced spoonbill cries out: “Scrap the Saemangeum New Airport! Save the Sura Tidal Flat!”
The white-handed fiddler crab demands: “Cancel this airport of ecological slaughter, climate chaos, war threats, and public fund exploitation!”
The shorebird warns: “No more airports that only feed construction capital. Protect the Sura Tidal Flat!”
The kestrel declares: “‘Balanced regional development’ is a lie — this is really about expanding the U.S. Air Force’s second runway. Cancel the Saemangeum New Airport!”

새 모자: 저어새와 검은머리 갈매기 (2023) 
군산에 기반한 시민단체 ‘평화바람’에서 저어새, 쇠제비갈매기, 황조롱이, 큰고니, 검은머리갈매기, 검은머리물떼새 등 수라갯벌에 사는 새들을 본떠 손수 제작한 ‘새 모자’예요. 행정법원 앞에서 새만금의 새들이 직접 말할 수 있도록 하고 싶다는 마음으로 100마리 넘게 만들었어요. 만들 때마다 한 마리 살려냈구나, 또 한 마리 살려냈구나 하는 벅찬 마음이 들었어요. 시민들은 새들을 대리하는 마음으로 이 새 모자를 쓰고 기자회견에 참여했죠. 갯벌을 지켜내는 그날까지 계속 싸워야죠.

Bird hats: Black-Faced Spoonbill and Saunders’s Gull (2023)
The citizen group Peace Wind handcrafted these hats, modelling them after the black-faced spoonbill, whooper swan, and Saunders‘s gull—the birds that call the Sura tidal flat home. We made more than 100 of these hats hoping to give Saemangeum’s birds a voice in front of the administrative court. Every time we made one, we felt a surge of emotion—as if we were bringing each bird back to life, one by one. People wore these hats in press conferences, standing in for the birds.
